In 2008, on April 15th

Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach, SC officially opened and changed the landscape of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Over $450 million was invested by the Rank Group, headquartered in London, England, in this Myrtle Beach Theme park with over 50 ride attractions.

The 140 acre Myrtle Beach theme park opened to a brisk 44 degree temperature on a day when most Americans were thinking about tax deadlines.Hard Rock Theme Park features Myrtle Beach roller coasters, shows, children's play areas, Hard rock park themed restaurants, cafes and Hard rock park and related retail stores. Hard Rock Park will also feature a live music amphitheater that officially opens at $250 per ticket showing the Eagles in concert later this Spring.

The Rank Group also has a Gaming Division, not related to the park that represents over half of the holding company's operating profit and comprises three main activities: Mecca Bingo, Grosvenor Casinos and Blue Square. Mecca is their bingo operator in the United Kingdom with 117 bingo clubs and more than 5 million members.

Grosvenor Casinos is a casino business with 41 licenses under the Grosvenor and Hard Rock brands and 1.2 million registered members. Blue Square is a United Kingdom Internet and telephone betting business that the firm is also related to.

Hard Rock Cafe International was acquired by Rank during the 1990s and Rank now owns 120 Hard Rock Cafes and 13 Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos in more than 40 countries including the Myrtle Beach Hard Rock Cafe located at Broadway at the Beach. Rank's American headquarters are Orlando, Florida.

Comments made earlier this year by Hard Rock Park included: "The 140-acre rock 'n' roll theme park located at Fantasy Harbor on the George Bishop Parkway will open its gates for the first time next spring 2008", said Steven Goodwin, chief operating officer of HRP Management Corp. Horry county approved the development plan for Hard Rock Park in the summer of 2006, but the park has been on the drawing board for years. As of 2007 developers began follwing that plan as they were laying out details of the foundation and infrastructure of the park.

The Hard Rock name has been successfull in the casino, hotel and cafe businesses, but the Myrtle Beach amusement park is a first.

A state-of-the-art sound systems was designed specifically for the theme park and the venue holds a vast collection of unique memorabilia pieces from the history of rock 'n' roll including cars and oversized concert stage props as "the Myrtle Beach Amusement park will reflect Hard Rock's commitment to music, featuring six unique, custom-designed zones celebrating rock's culture, lifestyle, legends and irreverence.

Governor Mark Sanford, of South Carolina, said in a prepared statement that Hard Rock Park "represents the largest single investment in tourism infrastructure in South Carolina's history."

Included in the project's design is a bridge linking Hard Rock Park to Highway 17 at the Coastal Grand Mall. The building of what will be called the Fantasy Harbour bridge is expected to be completed by 2009 and will offer Myrtle Beach vacationers another access across the Intracoastal Waterway directly into the theme park.

The park features live music concerts nightly and Led Zeppelin, the ride. This roller coaster blasts the 70's mega hit, "Whole Lotta Love", into the ears of thrill seekers as it does flips, twirls and spins. This ride is all about speed, dips, and spins.

Make sure to spend a day at Hard Rock Park if you are planning a Myrtle Beach Resort vacation in 2008.

Myrtle Waves Myrtle Beach Water Park
myrtle_waves_logo.jpg
For thrills, spills, and everything cool, your family can't beat Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Waves Water park.

Myrtle Waves Water Park located on the corner of 10th Avenue North and Highway 17 bypass, features the area's best water park rides including the "Ocean in Motion" wave pool, the Lay Zee river ride that meanders throughout and around the medium sized park, Saturation Station, an interactive water play structure with a tipping bucket, and an array of exciting water slides. You will find Myrtle Waves near these Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotels.

Kids love the saturation station, especially the little tikes between the ages of toddler to nine. Saturation Station is a great place to stay cool as the rain trees cascade water over the entire area. Kid play activities abound and mom and dad can make some cherished memories with toddlers. Make sure to bring your cameras so as to bring back home a keep sake that will last a lifetime.

Some of Myrtle Waves' most requested rides are the Turbo Twisters. These are the world's tallest wild enclosed body slides that twist and turn Earthward. The rides are very dark and the rider never knows when the next twist or turn is coming. The one hundred foot tall Turbo Twisters are an imposing sight from the launching area. Its spaghetti-bowl of three interconnecting purple slides look impossibly steep and twisty. As riders walk up the steps to the launching area sounds of muffled screams echoing from inside the slides add to the suspense. Without any visual cues, it's impossible to get a sense where the ride is heading and hard to determine the speed--but rest assured it's fast and deliriously fun. From the get-go, riders tear out, but when they navigate one of the tubes' nearly vertical dips, they REALLY pick up speed. The splash ramp at the end of the ride makes for a soft and slow exit.

The Arooba Tooba at Myrtle Waves is a spinning "toilet bowl" ride. Riders finally get a chance to feel what it is like to be a flushed gold fish. The ride circles in a frantic downward motion in a wet and thrilling fashion. Lines for the Aruba Tooba attraction can get long.

The Ocean Motion water park is a great place to soak up the sun, catch a wave, or just hang out and eat from one of the many Myrtle Waves Theme park vendors nearby. Snow Cones are great in those mid Summer days, and Myrtle Waves Snow cones are a rare blend of sweet that makes the experience all the more memorable.

If you have the heart for it, make sure to roar down one of the major "Free Fall" slides that sit at the tenth avenue side of the theme park. This is a no holes barred, zero to sixty free fall that will leave your heart in your throat and your body soaked. Don't blink on this one.

The park charges a one day admission and does run many specials with kids getting half off during some slower periods.

Ask your Myrtle Beach Hotel about ticket information concerning Myrtle Waves.

Blackwater Kayaking in Myrtle Beach The black waters are mysterious and beautiful
black_river_trip_07_couple_in_red.jpg
Another Successful “Wild Side” Adventure

The Black River is much more than a winding black water river. Its magic can make you forget your troubles, shed your stress and thrill you with its wonders.

The weekend of the 21st captured the attention of thirteen novices on the 3rd trip provided by the adventurous staff of Georgetown County Recreation & Leisure. The Wild Side group began their adventure on the Black River about ten miles east of Kingstree at Sims Reach Bridge. The beautiful dark water created by the majestic Bald Cypress had the eager paddlers oohing and ahhing. The river was rushing through swamps and trees as it spilled out of its banks from westward rains. Saturdays four hour paddle was so relaxing no one realized they had gone the distance due to being so mesmerized with the river.

Upon arriving at our preplanned campsite the paddlers were again amazed at the pleasures reaped from their $35 investment for a weekend in the wild. All their camping gear and accessories delivered at the campsite along with great food to be prepared by the RLS Master Chef, (Paul). The day ended with a campfire, good stories and a surprise visit from still another talented RLS staff member, (Bo) who lead the group in song while accompanied by his guitar.

Sunday morning awoke the paddlers with sizzling bacon, eggs and grits on the fire. With full stomachs, lunch prepared and gear packed away the fifteen paddlers thanked the chef for his culinary expertise.

The rainbow flotilla of kayaks and canoe set sail for their final voyage to the takeout at Cantley Landing. The pristine Black continued to share its treasures with the adventurous Wild Siders’.

Wildlife was abundant all along the winding black water stream. The paddlers encountered hundreds of song birds, wood ducks, vultures, hawks, bared owls, white tail deer, and water snakes. Just before the lunch stop Becca, the groups aquarist spotted a 6’ American alligator sunning on the near bank. As the group gathered to observe the exciting find, the gator quickly moved into the river to avoid any confrontation.

Paddlers View: Robbie Lane of Murrells Inlet said, “It was wonderful being able to be out with no traffic, no motor boats, and relaxing out in nature with a great group of new friends”.

The next “Wild Side” is ready to go for October 20 & 21 for the Black River Kayak Trip and November17 &18 for the Palmetto Trail Hiking Trip. The fall trips will be $45 to include 3 meals and new this fall “I Survived the Wild Side” t-shirt. Be sure and register early for these trips to insure the experience of a lifetime. Trips for youth are on the horizon, for more info call Ron. “See Ya on the Wild Side”.

Condos in Myrtle Beach 10/30/2006
coldstream-diningroom.jpg
The availability of Condos in Myrtle Beach have increased to an all time high as of October 30, 2006. Myrtle Beach Real Estate sales have cooled to the point of almost stopping this Fall and occupancy rates per each Myrtle Beach condo have reflected the influx of new construction.

With the Summer 2007 season eight months away, occupancy rates in June will be a measuring stick to see how all of the new construction will affect the Myrtle Beach Condo Rental business.

With a trend toward increased 3 night rentals, the Myrtle Beach Condo industry will need to come up with creative ideas to find market share in a increasingly competitive industry.

Kingston Plantation 10/17/2006
splash.jpg
Kingston Plantation, located at 9800 Queensway Boulevard is this week's Myrtle Beach Condos in review.

Kingston Plantation is a 145 acre Myrtle Beach resort with an outstanding clay court tennis facility featuring over 9 clay courts with venue seating for tournament play. The facility has featured matches that included John McEnroe and Pete Sampras.

Kingston Plantation offers Myrtle Beach Condos on the backside of the resort away from the Ocean. On the Oceanfront, kingston offers the Hilton Hotel which features more traditional hotel rooms and the Embassy Suites property which features suite hotel rooms.

We strongly recommend the condo properties, if a view of the ocean from your room is not critical in your decision criteria.

The Splash Waterpark at Embassy Suites is a great attraction for the kids.

Also, Kingston features the best onsite fitness center on the beach. Kingston Plantation's fitness center is not a small room with a few machines thrown in. At Kingston Plantation, your family will find one complete room filled with free weights, a second huge workout room with the newest technology in workout machines and equipment (with an outstanding glass enclosed view of the tennis facility), yoga classes, pilates, trainers, instructors, and several enclosed rooms for hand ball.

We highly recommend Kingston Plantation as a good buy for your family's next Myrtle Beach Vacation.

For comparable condo rooms to the off the Ocean Kingston condos, we suggest you compare Barefoot Resort Villas, which generally run $30 to $45 less per night for your family and sleeps a family of eight.

Garden City Beach South Carolina 08/03/2006
debordieu.jpg

In a fly over, it is quite obvious that Garden City Beach South Carolina is an Island largely cut off from the land mass that is America, by the Intracoastal Waterway.

While its contemporary towns of Cherry Grove Beach and North Myrtle Beach have gone highrise with concrete and steel Myrtle Beach condo resorts, Garden City is largely made up of single family Oceanfront Beach Homes.

The one lane road that runs up and down Garden City has a hot dog stand on one end and a quaint marina on the other. Couple with Sarah J's fried seafood restaurant, it would not be hard to imagine this town as Mayberry on the beach.

Sam Scalise, a local builder, moved into town in the early 1990s and began building the highest quality Oceanfront Beach homes in our area. The homes are brand new and assure that the town will keep its charm as Homeowners will not be selling out to huge developers.

These Oceanfront single family beach homes sleep from 8 to 16 family members in elegant style. For this reason, families in the know are choosing Garden City for a laid back vacation in Myrtle Beach.

The lack of a major Myrtle Beach Resort is probably the main reason for Garden City's success. Outside of the King Fisher Inn and the A Place at the Beach Condos, which were both built in the 1980s, there really is no highrise clutter on the Garden City Point.

If you are looking for a 1960s beach to call your own, have a look at Garden City Beach.

Myrtle Beach Golf Course Updates 11/30/2007
baytreegold_pubs.jpg

With the closing of the north end golf course in Myrtle Beach, Bay Tree Plantation in 2006, many area golf professionals and other workers found themselves displaced. As many looked for work in with Myrtle Beach Hotels and other area golf courses,

Tracy Conner, General Manager of Bay Tree, was noble enough to stay with the Myrtle Beach Hotel related golf gourse until the business closed its doors.

Not only did Tracy stay on the job until the last day, but he also found every employee in the company another job with other Myrtle Beach hotels or area golf courses.

Tracy is now the general manager of the Bellamy Law firm. The Bellamy Law firm was one of the owners of Bay Tree Golf course who made millions in the sale of the golf course operation. While Tracy does not have a law degree, his willingness to be loyal to his owners are now paying dividends for the local citizen. He oversees accounts receivables, payables, and the day to day cash flow functions of the firm.

Myrtle Beach Hotels and Condos now reports that development on the land that once was Bay Tree Golf Plantation is moving at a grind.

With the slowing down of the real estate market in 2007, development plans for the area golf course have been put on hold. Myrtle Beach Hotels and Condos will keep you alert as to the development of the former Bay Tree Golf Plantation.

From such modest beginnings, Scott moved to Myrtle Beach in the early 1980s and, after graduating from Coastal Carolina University, managed a local Oceanfront Myrtle Beach hotel.

After a few years in the hotel business, Scott found an opportunity to finally get into the business that was his first love.

Thoroughbreds, on Restaurant Row, was an immediate success and has remained the favorite upscale Myrtle Beach Restaurant in Myrtle Beach for the past 16 years.

Shore Crest Villas 08/03/2006
shore_crest_from_ocean_d.jpg

Shore Crest Villas is a North Myrtle Beach resort built in 1985 at the onset of the condo boom in North Myrtle Beach.

This Resort in North Myrtle Beach featured largely one and two bedroom condos. When the Shore Crest Condos were orginally built condos in Myrtle Beach were rare. Most Oceanfront properties consisted mostly of Hotels owned by a single owner.

Shore Crest Villas were built to compete in this market and the concept was very successful.

Today with the construction of Avista Resort, Ashworth Condos, and Barefoot Resort, the Shore Crest Villas seemed oddly dated and no longer hold the appeal they held over 20 years ago. Many of the original homeowners sold their Shore Crest Condo and upgraded to a newer design as these were built.

Shore Crest Condos are located on 4709 South Ocean Boulevard in North Myrtle Beach.

As a service for our consumers, Myrtle Beach Condos Direct will be reviewing every condo constructed in North Myrtle Beach by price and value over the next few months.

In Summary: We rate Shore Crest Villas as a solid, but dated product. Well constructed and well kept, these Oceanfront Condos are ideal for couples and small families that are willing to accept a dated design and interior. For the price, these condos are rated an acceptable buy, but not a value.

Anderson Ocean Club Hotels set to open soon New Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotels
anderson_ocean_club_from_beach.jpg
Anderson Ocean Club Hotels located on 2800 North Ocean Boulevard is scheduled to open Spring 2008. Anderson Ocean Club is among the newest luxury Myrtle Beach Hotels to open oceanfront in the downtown north region of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Offering 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom, 2 bedroom, and 4 bedroom hotel suites and condos on the Oceanfront, Anderson Ocean Club should be a natural hit for Myrtle Beach vacations in downtown Myrtle Beach,SC.

The Anderson Ocean Club also offers Magnolias Restaurant on site at the hotel just across Ocean Boulevard. This is among the most appreciated Myrtle Beach Restaurants by locals and can often be standing room only on Sundays after church has ended.

With the closing of the Myrtle Beach Pavilion in 2006, this downtown location has seen many changes and few upgrades in Myrtle Beach Hotels since the late 1990s. Anderson Ocean Club is a welcome addition to this downtown area and should stand out as one of the most popular Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotels as far as summer Myrtle Beach vacations are concerned.

Bay View Hotel finds troubles in renting to teens Myrtle Beach Hotels can have issues with young guests
bay_view_hotel.bmp
Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotels, like Bay View Hotel, that rent to teenage guests or college students can find themselves in peril when these guests drink and make poor choices associated with underage drinking.

While many Myrtle Beach Hotels will not rent to adults under the age of 25, some who do can find the entire resort at risk.

The following is an incident reported in the Spring of 2008 by the Sun News concerning Bay View Hotel and a teenage guest who fell from the high rise hotel after becoming intoxicated.

Charlotte teen falls from Myrtle Beach hotel balcony

18-year-old told police he was intoxicated
KURT KNAPEK
The Sun News (Myrtle Beach)

A Charlotte teenager remained hospitalized Thursday, one day after falling two floors at the Bayview Motel in Myrtle Beach, according to a police report.

The 18-year-old was taken to the surgical intensive care unit of Grand Strand Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, said detective Carol Allen of the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

The teen, who told police he was intoxicated, had a crushed knee cap, bleeding in the brain, and several bumps and bruises, Allen said.

"He lost his footing and fell," Allen said. "It could be a long road to recovery."

Police found fingerprints and footprints on window ledges in a 12th-floor room and blood on a window ledge in a 10th-floor room at the hotel, located at 504 N. Ocean Blvd., according to a report.

The teen landed on the 10th floor, Allen said.

He is the second person to fall from a hotel this week on the Grand Strand.

A Largo, Fla., woman died Monday morning after falling from a 16th-floor hotel balcony onto a roof covering the resort's pool.

Bonnie Hoff, 54, died Monday at the Sands Ocean Club Resort, said Horry County Coroner Robert Edge.

She was found by a hotel guest, who alerted hotel security, authorities said.

The investigation into what caused her fall is ongoing, Sgt. Bob Carr of the Horry County Police Department said Thursday.

Hotels on Ocean Boulevard Myrtle Beach Hotels and Condos downtown
    breakers_paradise_1.jpg
Myrtle Beach South Carolina is famous for Ocean Boulevard. This is the main stretch of four lane that runs parallel to the coast from 29th Avenue North down south to 23rd Avenue South.

Myrtle Beach Hotels and Condos run the gamete on Ocean Boulevard to older hotels like the Viking to upscale high rises like the all new Oceanfront Sandy Beach Resorts Hotel.

The Ocean Boulevard area is currently in dynamic transition. Many of the older Hotels that are family owned are being torn down and replaced by Oceanfront Hotels that have individually owned condos. These condos are then property managed by a property management firm that usually has an ownership interest in the common areas such as front desk, pools, jacuzzi s, and hallways.

Recent Myrtle Beach Hotels that have been built under this new concept include: Ocean Blue Resorts, Bay View Resort, Anderson Inn Hotel, Sandy Beach Resorts Hotel, Oceans I, and Oceans II.

Some of the older Oceanfront Hotels on Ocean Boulevard include the Viking Hotel, Chesterfield Inn, Johnathan Harbor, Sea Mist Resorts Hotel, and the Wave Rider, just to name a few.

Still, yet some Ocean Boulevard Hotels consist of older and newer buildings on the same resorts hotel properties. These hotels include: The Sea Mist Resorts, Boardwalk Hotel, Breakers Resorts Hotel, Bar Harbor, Holiday Sands, Poindexter Resorts, Caribbean Resorts, and the Compass Cove Resorts hotel. Visitors to these properties need to be advised to choose carefully when making your accommodations. Rooms here are spotty, and while some are new and well kept, others on the same property can be old and in disrepair.

Myrtle Beach Hotels & Condos expects to see even more dramatic improvements to Ocean Boulevard. The Myrtle Beach Pavilion closed its doors in 2006 and moved to Broadway at the Beach. The entire Ocean Boulevard area is looking at an overhaul in the vicinity of the 10th Avenue North area. Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Hotels are proposed to being built where the pavilion once stood. Many of the shops and so called attractions in this area are very dated and have a 1950s appeal. Myrtle Beach Hotels and condos expects these shops to come down as well in the next decade.
