Memorial Day is a federal holiday, and has been celebrated for years and years as a time to spend with friends and family. Memorial Day in Myrtle Beach has become a tradition for many, traveling from as far as Canada. Myrtle Beach is an ideal spot to vacation with your family for many reasons, the main ones being affordable family events and attractions, oceanfront hotels in Myrtle Beach, and great seasonal celebrations. The Myrtle Beach Memorial Day weekend parade is an annual parade enjoyed by many, and takes place right in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach on Ocean Boulevard. This year, the Memorial Day parade in Myrtle Beach will take place on Saturday May 26 from 10am to 12pm. Major General Robert E. Livingston will serve as Grand Marshal for the parade this year, with many local organizations and social groups following behind. The 2012 Memorial Day parade in Myrtle Beach starts at 27th Ave. N on Ocean Boulevard and continues down to 9th Ave. N. Applications are still being accepted if you or anyone you know might be interested in being a participant.

If you will be visiting Myrtle Beach for Memorial Day, there are many other things to do while in town. All of the water parks in the area will be open, The Nascar Speedpark will also be open on Friday and Saturday from 11am-11pm. There is also a new attraction in Myrtle Beach; Myrtle Beach Adrenaline Adventures! This is a new zipline attraction in Myrtle Beach that allows you to speed through the air at speeds up to 60mph and then do a “free fall” at the end. This new Myrtle Beach zipline is located at the old Pavilion site at 9th Ave and Kings Hwy… you can’t miss it! One of the best parts about vacationing in Myrtle Beach for Memorial Day weekend is the affordable lodging available. Hotels in Myrtle Beach are easy to come by, and you even have the option of staying in an oceanfront or beachfront Myrtle Beach hotel!

Cinco de Mayo in Myrtle Beach is going to be extra special this year since it falls on a Saturday! Burro Loco in Myrtle Beach near Broadway at the Beach is known to throw one of the largest Cinco de Mayo celebrations on the Grand Strand and this year is no exception. In addition to their annual BurroFest celebration, they will be holding an event that morning called Burro Loco Stache Dash 2012. The event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Burro Loco. The event is a 5k trail run where participants are encouraged to wear their finest mustaches and sombreros. Burro Loco Stache Dash is for a good cause with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit Backpack Buddies, a Myrtle Beach based program that provides over 2,000 area children in need with food. Registration fee is $20 for adults 18 and older and $15 for anyone under the age of 18. This fee includes a stache, official t-shirt, food and beverage. In addition, the fee will get you a wristband for complimentary beverages from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the BurroFest which will follow the race.

The 15th Annual BurroFest at Burro Loco will be held after Stache Dash. The fiesta begins at 11:00 a.m. and doesn’t stop until 2:00 a.m. Live music will be from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. from The Sick Stooges, Sushi for Breakfast, No Limit and The Mullets. Of course, there will be plenty of good Mexican food, margaritas and beer served.

Burro Loco isn’t the only place having a fiesta for Cinco de Mayo in Myrtle Beach. Nacho Hippo in The Market Common opened just in December of 2010 and already is considered one of the most popular Mexican hangout spots in Myrtle Beach. Offering everyday low drink specials like $3 fresh squeezed margaritas, Nacho Hippo is sure to be packed on Cinco de Mayo so be sure to get there early. Nacho Hippo opens at 11:30 a.m. and closes at 1:00 a.m. They will have live entertainment on Cinco de Mayo that you can enjoy while eating freshly prepared Mexican creations like their signature nachos or west-coast style tacos that feature a variety of unique combinations. We love the classic Baja Fish tacos with the spicy citrus mayo.

There are numerous other Myrtle Beach Mexican restaurants to choose from. Many will have drink and food specials for Cinco de Mayo. Here is a list of just a few:

Abuelo’s Mexican Food

740 Coastal Grand Circle, Myrtle Beach (at the Coastal Grand Mall)

El Cerro Grande (two of their many locations)
