You always hear about the great places to eat in Myrtle Beach like Myrtle Beach seafood restaurants but, as a vacationer, you may not know that you can get fresh seafood and produce and cook a great meal on your own by visiting a local farmers market. While on your Myrtle Beach vacation, be sure to visit Myrtle Beach farmers markets to get a taste of locally grown produce and locally caught seafood. Pick up some fresh strawberries and watermelon and head out to the beach or get some vegetables and shrimp and fire up the grill. Going to a local farmer’s market is a great way to experience local cuisine without spending a lot of money.
There are two Myrtle Beach farmers markets to choose from. Myrtle’s Market is located at 605 Mr. Joe White Avenue and is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Items that are typically available include: beans, beets, cabbage, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, turnip greens, lettuce, okra, onions, peanuts, bell peppers, potatoes, summer squash, tomatoes, turnips, zucchini, apples, cantaloupe, peaches, blueberries, strawberries, watermelon, flounder, shrimp, goat cheese, annuals, perennials, bedding plants, barbeque sauces, maple syrup, honey, jams and jellies, molasses and various homemade products and crafts.
New this year is the farmers market at The Market Common, DeVille Street Farmer’s Market. This farmer’s market is hosted by the Waccamaw Market Cooperative and The Market Common and will open on May 12th. The DeVille Street Farmers Market will then be open every Saturday from 8am to 12pm. Items include locally caught seafood from Seven Seas Seafood and produce (when in-season) such as blackberries, blueberries, broccoli, okra, peaches, peppers, cantaloupe, strawberries, watermelon, beans, zucchini, yellow squash, sweet corn, tomatoes and herbs. The DeVille Street Farmers Market also plans to host different local chefs each week and have them offer a live cooking demonstration of a recipe using local produce and seafood.
