The first winner of the coveted four diamond AAA award was the Sheraton Convention center hotels located at Broadway at the Beach. This Myrtle Beach hotel won the award in 2003, when it was then a part of the Radisson hotel chain. Unfortunately the Sheration Convention Center Hotel dropped to a three diamond property this year. While this was a disappointment to the chain of Sheraton Hotels, the three diamond award still rates the Sheraton as among the best of Myrtle Beach Hotels in the area. The Sheraton learned of its losing its rating earlier in the year and fell short of the four diamond in 22 ways by inspection a few months ago. “The money that Sheraton Hotels would need to spend to regain this award amounts to around one million dollars,” said Mark Kruea, a spokesman for the Sheraton Convention Center Hotel.

“AAA’s requirements for a four diamond award are rigorous,” said David E. Parsons, president and CEO of AAA Carolinas. “And those that win it are among the best hotels in the world as only 3 percent of our over 45,000 annual inspections conducted annually result in a four diamond rating.”
