What began over 20 years ago as a private collection of Kathleen and Archie Futrell's love for nature has become Myrtle Beach, South Carolina's only Myrtle Beach zoo and a fun day of adventure for any Myrtle Beach Vacations.

Waccatee Zoological Farm is located within 500 acres of private, carefully preserved, wooded property near these Myrtle Beach Hotels. At Wacatee Zoo your family will find winding trails, beneath shady trees and over one hundred species of exotic animals, all loved, cared for, and treated like family. This Myrtle Beach zoo receives no state or government funding, and is kept in tip top shape by caring individuals. Located just west of Garden City Beach, where the Waccamaw River, Intercoastal Waterway and Socastee Creek join, Waccatee Zoo is a natural wildlife sanctuary and breeding ground for many species of migratory birds. During the Spring and Summer Seasons, it's not uncommon to see more than one thousand native low country egrets or heron in one small area.

Kids will love our viewing area of Demara Zebras, Kangaroos, Water Buffalo, Dromedary Camels, African Watusi, and Eland. Wacatee Zoo is a great place to learn, connect and relax.

Kathleen Futrell states, "We simply love animals - and we always have. We wanted to create a very natural place where people could walk around and enjoy our family. We are not interested in a concrete jungle. The interest shown by local people, and by church and school groups, have helped us decide to open Waccatee to the public."
